Today’s New Component: nVidia 9800GTX Video card
Well… sorry for this diversion guys. I saw the new GeForce 9800GTX video cards come up on several retailers, so I thought I’d give it a try in giving it a review. If you want some benchmarks, you can look at one of my favorites,Tomshardware.com.
So, I’m going to make a review on my own. I’m not going to go into any specific benchmarks, as Tomshardware.com staff has. I will not copy either.
Anyhow, the 9800GTX: From what I see, this one is just like the game Crysis: overly-hyped and anticipated too much, and the overall performance is shunned because it’s not “2389108320 times better than the 8800 Ultra”. However, I’m a person who didn’t really anticipate it; I wasn’t really going to buy it anyways, so why anticipate it? Sure, technological advancement in GPU’s will come in, but I wasn’t planning to buy it, so why care much?
Well, this card is going for around ~$335 to ~$355 in the sites I visit daily(Newegg, ClubIT, TigerDirect, etc.). If you look at the benchmarks at TomsHardWare, it comes very close to the 8800 Ultra and the ATI 3870 X2, but not quite. And seeing the other G92 GPUs(namely the 8800GT, 8800GTS and the 9600GT) perform as well as they did at their price levels, this is pretty good. I mean, sure, this was supposed to be the 9-series tip of the iceberg GPU, but looking at the price and how it performs, it has a very good price/performance ratio IMO. For somewhere around the mid $300’s, it performs almost as well as an Ultra, which costs twice as much, and the ATI 3870X2, which is ~$440. I’d highly recommend this if you’re going to play demanding games like Crysis(as you saw in the benchmarks). As soon as I get one(I’m actually thinking of getting one… yes), I will post my OWN benchmarks up.
So, until next time, see you all later!
