NVidia’s GT300 and DX11
Hey guys, Icarus here again!
Since yesterday I talked about AMD’s side of DX11, I’m going to talk about NVidia and its plans for DX11.
So here are some questions you might have:
1. Who’s currently “ahead”? NVidia or AMD?
2. Who will come out with a DX11 compatible GPU first?
3. What the heck is the GT300?
Ok, and I’m going to answer one at a time.
Who’s Currently Ahead?
Well, in my opinion, NVidia is currently ahead, but not by much.
I put NVidia ahead only because of the fact that NVidia’s latest GPU’s are just ridiculous. Their benchmarks are ridiculous(along with their price tags of course), and they completely astonish us with how much they can do.
On the other hand, when an ATI 4890(the lastest ATI GPU) and NVidia’s 275 GTX was pitted against each other, they were fairly similar. This means that the 295 GTX will overpower the 4890 by quite a lot.
Who will Come Out with a DX11 Compatible GPU First?
This question is one of those things that no one can absolutely predict.
However, I am giving this honor to AMD. Recently, NVidia announced that its new GT300 series, the first DX11 compatible NVidia GPUs, is giving around 20% yield.
Yes, you saw that number correctly. That’s even less than my worst yield in a science lab!
But the point is, NVidia is no where near releasing their new products. On the other hand, AMD seems to be going pretty well according to schedule, and they are already in the process of having video game companies program new games to suit their new GPUs.
So, I predict that AMD will release the first DX11 compatible GPU first.
What the Heck is the GT300?
The GT300 is NVidia’s first DX11-compatible graphics cards.
We don’t have much information as of yet, but so far, it’s not looking so good for NVidia. They’re having some technical issues pertaining to layout and leaks, so they’re probably going to have to delay releasing it.
From what I’ve seen and read, I’m hoping that NVidia releases the GT300 sometime early 2010. But they’re going to AT LEAST delay until then.
Well that’s it for today! Hope you guys enjoyed this post!
Don’t forget, COMMENT please!! I’m always open to criticism, suggestions, and especially what hardware you want reviewed!!
Youtube videos and much more are coming soon!
Cheers!

The 4870 X2 is faster than the GTX 295 in many benchmarks, and is cheaper, same with the 4890 and GTX 275. nVidia still have the 285 and 295 “Mars editions” from Asus, but at over £1000 a pop this shouldn’t give them the crown. Remember ATI have DX10.1 which drastically increases framerates in supported games, and the hardware is more DX11 friendly.

Thanks for your information Emu.
Btw, I read somewhere that the 275 GTX and 4890 are about the same overall, each excelling in some benchmarks over the other.
Although there aren’t that many games right now that support DX10.1, I have to agree with you, AMD may pull ahead in the future because NVidia always seems to be more of a “here and now” company, at least right now. AMD, in my eyes, is more of the dreamer and innovator, at least for now.
Again, thanks for your comment! Appreciate it

Well, I wouldn’t call nVidia having the fastest card in the market being ahead.its mainly aimed at enthusiasts who obviously are a market minority.however, GTXs are selling more than radeons (I think) so that’s what should put nV ahead. When releasing the 4870×2 AMD made it clear the high end was not a priority and look what that got them.a huge chunk of market share and some popularity to boot. Given nVidias shoddy implementation of their bulky architecture, which works fine btw, I’m sticking to AMD who give enough attention to innovation and extra features. (remember DX 10.1?)

Hmm good points.
However, about the DX10.1 feature on the AMD GPUs. There aren’t enough games that utilize DX10.1 to its fullest extent to make enough of a difference for AMD to pull ahead, or at least break even with NVidia.
Currently, I think RadeOns are selling just as much as GTX’s because of the price war they’ve been having. So right now, the market is even. It’s just that NVidia has the speed crown right now.

Yeah!not many games utilise DX10.1.
But it goes to show how willing ATi is in the innovation department.
As for the speed crown, I just realised that the 4890×2 will be the bane of GTX295s very existence.

That’s a good point.
ATi seems to stay ahead in the innovation department compared to NVidia, but many fanboys still favor NVidia just because of the logo and its past. I wish they would stop doing that
Yes, I’ve known that for a while, and that things is crazy! ATi and NVidia, in my opinion, are neck to neck right now. They’re so close, that it may all come down to the GT300 vs RV800 GPUs for now.
Whoever wins that war, will take the speed crown! And many fans w/ them. Haha
