Intel Core i7 is to monster truck, as Core i9 is to…
Hey guys, Icarus here!
So recently, I’ve talked about the new Core i3, i5, and i7 CPUs coming out right around the corner(anywhere in the time frame of September 2009 to Q1 of 2010), but I just got more information about another series of CPUs.
Intel has been leaking information about their Core i9 processors.
Yes, it’s Core i7 + 2.
The Core i9 Gulftown series is the successor of the Core i7 series of CPUs, based on the Westmere architecture.
Now, the most important thing about the Core i9 is that it has 6 cores.
Yes, you heard right… 6 cores.
It means 3×2, 2×3, but it also means that you have 2 more cores than a quad-core. The math is easy, but to predict the infinite performance a hexa-core CPU can push out is unimaginable.
Now, the good thing about the Core i9 is that it will stay with the original X58 LGA 1366 socket like the first two Core i7 CPUs. This means that those of you who already have X58 LGA 1366 motherboards can easily upgrade in the future!
Now, I don’t have detailed specs as of yet, but as soon as I get them, I will post them!
Oh and one more thing: the Core i9 is pointed at PC enthusiasts. But some of us can still drool over the CPU and reap the performance of a godly processor
That’s it for this post! Hope you guys enjoyed it!

Pine Trail Debut in 2009
Hey guys, Icarus here!
So, have you ever met or know a person who makes a promise, then tells you that there was no promise, and then comes back to tell you that the promise is still there?
I have. But honestly, Intel seems to be doing rather a lot of that lately.
In one of my previous posts, I talked about the Pine Trail chipset and said that they were going to be delayed until 2010. Well, today, Intel came back and told us they will be releasing them in September of 2009!
What the heck Intel?
Now we don’t even know for sure if the prediction of September 2009 is even correct. Who knows?
However, Intel may not be completely at fault here.
Acer and ASUS, who plans to use Intel’s new Pine Trail chipset in their netbooks, said that their netbooks will be delayed until 2010, and seemed to point their fingers at Intel for the reason.
However, both Acer and ASUS are now taking back what they said, and told everyone that they will release their netbooks in September 2009.
So, who knows when the Pine Trail or new netbooks will be released? We’ll just have to wait and see.
That’s it for this post! Hope you guys enjoyed it!

The Red Demon(AMD) vs Green Goblin(NVidia)
Hey guys, Icarus here!
Recently I’ve obtained more information about both the NVidia GT300 and ATI RV800 GPUs so I will tell you all about them!
So, I’m going to start out with NVidia first.
NVidia GT300
- It will be a cGPU, not a GP-GPU. A cGPU is said to be much, MUCH faster than the older-generation GT200) with an increase in stream pipes
- 40nm GPU with GDDR5 and DX11. First DX11 graphics cards out of NVidia!!
- The first card is said to cost around $600 , and the GPU itself is supposed to be finished sometime in November of 2009. However, mass production will not start until Q1 of 2010(around March)
So, there’s the new information about the Green Goblin!
Now, here’s all about AMD’s RV800!
ATI RV800
- XDDR2 support(which is supposed to be much faster than GDDR5), also known as TTram(more on that in a later post)
- DX11 with more stream pipes!!!
- The first card will launch by September 2009 and mass production will start some time in October 2009! They will also release 4 cards, ranging anywhere from $200-$700 US.
From just the specs and information, AMD/ATI is still much farther ahead than NVidia, with NVidia still stuck on GDDR5.
However, specs don’t mean anything without actual benchmarks, so we will just have to wait until the cards are released!
That’s it for this post! Hope you enjoyed it and hope it helped you!

Great Job Intel, AMD, and NVidia!
Hey guys, Icarus here!
I just came by to say that I have great news on all three major computer component manufacturers: they’ve all done well in Q2!!
According to a research firm, Intel, AMD, and NVidia have all expanded their graphics divisions many folds over compared to Q1. This growth is THE largest growth the graphics industry has seen in many, many years.
This is apparent though, from Intel’s leak of the Larrabee GPU, to NVidia’s mass-release of their mobile GPUs.
So, how does this affect us as consumers? Well, it means that we’ll have a terrific back-to-school sales!
Because Intel, AMD, and NVidia have been so competitive about being at the cutting edge of technology, especially in the graphics industry, they’ve all been having price and performance competitions like never before.
So, when the back-to-school season sale starts, they’ll become even more competitive to take as much of the market share as possible! That means more deals, less price gouging, and generally more for us!
So what does this mean for the future? I don’t really know. The market is so moody these past couple years that it’s hard to predict what will happen. However, I have hope that things can get much, much better too.
That’s it for this post! Hope you guys enjoyed it!

Collaboration: Windows 7, Intel, and NVidia
Hey guys, Icarus here!
Recently, I’ve heard news about Windows 7 that might upset some of the AMD fans out there: looks like Intel and Microsoft, and NVidia and Microsoft are working together on Windows 7.
From recent rumors, Intel and Microsoft have been collaborating together on Windows 7. Now that sounds good and all, but what troubles AMD fans is that it seems like they’re optimizing Windows 7 for Intel’s HyperThreading technology.
Now, AMD has the same technology but a bit different from Intel’s HT, and if Windows 7 is truly optimized for Intel’s new processors, then AMD may suffer a bit of a performance bang if its own technology doesn’t get along with Windows 7.
Now onto NVidia’s share of the cake: they’ve also been working together with Microsoft on Windows 7 to boost dedicated graphics card performance to encourage consumers to upgrade.
In another light, Intel’s collaboration and effort on Windows 7 with Microsoft is much more influential because what Intel did boosts the DX11 performance by tweaking a program called DX Compute; this tweak favors both NVidia and ATI on equal grounds.
However, Intel’s other influences also keep AMD completely in the dark; it will be extremely difficult for AMD if Intel’s efforts decrease AMD processor performance on Windows 7.
Well, that’s all I have for today! Hope you enjoyed my article.
Stay tuned for more sample computer builds and news/commentary posts!
Cheers!
