Intel Announces Core i7 Branding! Ninja Style

Posted in: CPU |

Hey guys, Icarus here!

So, Intel released their new branding of their processor family. Here’re some of the important things:

  1. The main processors are now Core i7, Core i5, and Core i3
  2. Core 2Duo and Core 2 Quad brands will eventually disappear. This is understandable since there’re dual- and quad-core processors in the Core i7, i5 and i3 series
  3. Pentium, Celeron, and Atom series will remain. This is the part I don’t understand; why keep the Pentium and Celeron series? They already have Core2 processors in laptops anyways.
  4. Centrino series will go away(understandable) and some other brand(Intel Wifi? Wifimax? I’m going to have to make a post on that) will take over

Also, more good news: Core i7, i5, and i3 series are coming to you via laptops too! Wow this is such a fast transition.

If Intel does really succeed in getting these new processors on laptops quickly, who knows how dominant Intel will be in the mobile processor industry.

Also, I am guessing that the Core i7 is going to be the high-end CPU for Intel from now on:

  1. The Core i5 and i3 processors don’t have HyperThreading, and i3 processors don’t have QPI, which means that the Core i5 and i3 processors can only take up to 4 threads at a time. The Core i7 processors can take up to 8 because of HT.
  2. The Core i3 processors don’t have turbo mode

Now, we also need to think about the big picture here.

Windows 7, which is coming out soon, is praised to be the OS with the most superior thread managing ever. And since the original and newer Core i7 processors all have HyperThreading and QPI, who knows how much this thing can handle once Windows 7 comes out.

As I believe, the Core i7, i5 and i3 processors are series of processors with truly infinite, limitless potential.

Hope you guys enjoyed this article! Stay tuned for more posts!

Cheers!

Only for the Daring: EVGA P55 Motherboard

    Posted in: Motherboard |

    Hey guys, Icarus here!

Since Intel’s new Core i5 and newer Core i7 CPUs are coming out soon with a completely different socket(grr Intel), I’m going to talk about a motherboard that supports this new socket: EVGA P55 motherboard.

EVGA’s P55 motherboard is equipped with the new LGA 1156 socket for the new Core i5 processors and the new addition to Core i7 series of processors.

The overall design of the P55 looks just like EVGA’s already-released X58 motherboard, but now with a completely gray-black, sleek look that just spells “overclock me. I dare you.”

This motherboard comes with 3 PCI-E slots, many SATA inputs, the enthusiast-friendly tools and software, and all the cables that are needed for the consumer to enjoy this motherboard to its fullest potential.

Another little bonus that *may* come with this motherboard is a small remote that lets you do minor overclocking settings on-the-fly. I’ve seen ASUS put LCD displays on their motherboard, but no one has added on a remote before! Nice idea EVGA!

Now, how much will this motherboard cost? I don’t really know. It all depends on how “high-end” the Intel Corei5 and newer Core i7 processors are.

If the P55 and the Corei5/newer i7 processors are going to be more for the mid-budget level consumers, then this motherboard won’t be as much as an X58 motherboard. If it’s in the high-end level… then we will just have to see how “high-end” a motherboard can be.

Anyways, that’s all for today! Hope you enjoyed my post!

Tomorrow I’ll continue with my sample builds! Stay tuned for more!

    Happy computer building!

    AMD Fusion: Where are youuu???

    Posted in: CPU, GPU |

    Hey guys, Icarus here!

So, I’ve talked about Intel’s platform for combining a CPU and a GPU on the same silicon for notebooks and hopefully desktops later, but I haven’t talked much about AMD’s version of it, so here we go!

AMD, back in 2006, bought ATI for this specific reason: to combine a CPU and a GPU onto the same chip.

So basically, they’ve been working on this project called “AMD Fusion” since 2006. Just from the name, it’s obvious that they’re trying to combine some things here.

However, I’ve been reading up recently, and heard that the AMD Fusion won’t be out until late 2010.

So here’s my message to AMD: if you’re going to announce it years ahead of time, why delay it even longer? We’re waiting on you!

While Intel’s Arrandale gCPU(cGPU? I don’t know hahaha) is going according to schedule and eagerly awaiting its release, AMD is still way back in time, trying to work as fast and efficiently as possible. I guess sometimes that isn’t enough.

AMD, if you don’t hurry up, you’re going to lose a major share of the market to Intel just from the delay!

Anyways, that’s all for this post! Hope it helped you get to know more about AMD, and hope you enjoyed it!

    NVidia-Branded Netbooks? Blasphemy!

    Posted in: Netbooks |

    Hey guys, Icarus here!

In this post I’m going to be talking about a rumor that’s been going around about NVidia’s plans with Tegra-based netbooks.

So, recently NVidia made a clear point that they will not be making Tegra-based mini-laptops under its own logo and name.

However, I’ve heard rumors that say the complete opposite: they have created a prototype mini-laptop code-named the Firefly.

Who knew NVidia would expand so much in the last few years? First they start out with great GPUs, then they try to invade the CPU territory, and now they’re getting into netbooks!

This is probably a part of their marketing strategy against Intel, because Intel has already released information about their own mini-laptops and netbooks under their name.

I’ve also heard rumors that if NVidia keeps going with its Firefly design, they will release netbooks as early as September. How long have you been working on this NVidia? What a surprise!

Anyways, that’s all for this post! Hope you enjoyed it!
