AMD’s new Operatron EE Saves the Environment, and You!

Posted in: CPU |

Hey guys, Icarus here!

I’m going to diverge a little today from my Intel-NVidia one-two punch action on my posts, and talk a bit about AMD’s side of the market.

Today, AMD released its new 40W Hexa-Core Operatron EE processors!

So, why did AMD do this?

Well, because being environmentally friendly is a good thing. Saves energy, takes less fossil fuel to produce energy, and you still get the same or even greater result!

But that’s from an environmentalist’s point of view. Ours is from a consumer perspective. Sorry!

The Hexa-Core Operatron EE is mostly directed at, in my opinion, those people who operate multiple server systems in their offices, homes, and elsewhere.

What AMD did was they reduced the power draw of the Operatron EE down to 40W but still managed to keep the performance at the original level.

Basically, you’re getting more bang-for-the-watt.

Now, this processor is originally directed toward those with multiple server systems because these systems can draw so much energy!

It’s not just the hardware we’re talking about here; we’re also talking about the power bill most of you must pay for your house and other places to stay with electricity.

With many server systems running at the same time, a small decrease in power consumption from each server system can equate to a large saving. Basically, it can lower the bottom line for you.

So AMD, kudos to you!

However, for those of us who don’t run many server systems at the same time, you will probably want to wait for AMD’s other hexa-core Operatrons that should be coming out soon for all of us computer enthusiasts.

That’s all for today! Hope you guys enjoyed it!

Make sure to comment and post!

Cheers!

Intel’s Core i5 Processors, Released in Europe!

    Posted in: CPU |

    Hey guys, Icarus here!

Today is a great day indeed: Intel has released the Core i5 Lynnfield processors in Europe today!

This means that the release of the Core i5 Lynnfield processors in the US and other parts of the world is coming closer and closer!

It’s so close that I can smell and taste(a bit weird, I know) the awesome pricing and performance it will come to provide!

This also means that some of the P55 motherboards have also been released in Europe.

But why Europe first? The US market is probably much larger, and should have much more demand.

I don’t really know why, but it seems like Europe usually gets the newest hardware first. Maybe because there’s a more concentrated population demand there?

    Who knows.

With the release of the new Core i5 processors also comes the preview of the Core i9 processors.

Intel has been going with this “Tick Tock” convention for their processor development. It’s literally like an old-fashion clock, where the bar goes back and forth.

The “Tock” was the Nehalem Core i7 processors that were released during the summer of this year(2009). The “Tick” is happening now, with the release of the Core i5 and i7 Lynnfield processors with the LGA 1156 socket.

The next “Tock” I believe is the Core i9 processors which, if everything goes according to plan, should come out sometime in the latter part of Q4 of this year or earlier next year in 2010.

With this “Tick Tock” convention, Intel has been kicking AMD’s bottom in terms of performance and overall “bang-for-the-buck”.

Well, that’s all for this post! Hope you guys enjoyed it!

Stay tuned for much, much more to come! Cheers!

    A Preview of the GT300, Part 2

    Posted in: GPU |

    Hey guys, Icarus here!

In today’s post, I’m going to continue my previous post on NVidia’s GT300 preview, then you should go read it! It’s a must!

Anyways, continuing with the preview of the NVidia GT300!

So, some of you who’ve been reading up on NVidia’s GT300 woes(extremely low yield percentages, technical problems), then you’re probably wondering why it looks like NVidia is rushing its preview.

Well, that’s because AMD/ATI is releasing its RV800 series in September!

It’s extremely important that NVidia releases a preview of the GT300 in September so that AMD/ATI doesn’t completely “monopolize” the DX11 GPu arena.

This way, many NVidia fans and some undecided GPU enthusiasts will have something to look forward to, and wait for.

At a NVidia-hosted conference a while back, the Green Goblin received some harsh criticism on their policies for vendors.

Apparently these policies for renaming the hardware, tweaking the GPU, and furnishing the GPU as the vendor’s very own has become even more strict, time-consuming, and expensive.

So NVidia is under a lot of pressure right now. They need to perfect their GT300 OEM versions for the vendors, and send the GPUs with fluid, efficient drivers that is user-friendly and works like a charm.

Or else NVidia may lose major support from many of the big-name vendors like EVGA, XFX, GigaByte, and MSI.

The GPU arena is never boring; it’s always coming out with new, exciting information and advancement!

Anyways, that’s all for today’s post! Hope you guys enjoyed it!

Stay tuned, much more is coming your way!

    Cheers!

NVidia’s GT300 Coming out for Preview in September

    Posted in: GPU |

    Hey guys, Icarus here!

Today, I bring you great news - NVidia is giving a preview of the new GT300 in late September!

Why is this such great news?

It means that NVidia has finished creating its prototype, and is now in the final stages of creating the final form of the GT300!!!

So, the stages are set for the Red Demon and the Green Goblin - an all-out war, GT300 vs ATI RV800, for the performance crown once again.

But now that we can finally see the GT300 over the horizon, you’re probably wondering why it took so long for them to make a preview of the GT300 compared to ATI’s RV800.

Well, for one, the GT300 had some early technical issues where there were leaks in the layout that gave the GT300 very, very little yield. Literally in the 20% level.

The second reason is something that is an issue for both NVidia and ATI: the drivers for these GPUs are extremely complex.

I’ve heard that some of these new drivers for the DX11 cards take and include more code than the Windows OS cores. That’s an insane amount of code right there. We can’t even fathom how any group of people can get this done successfully.

It’s something short of a miracle.

Also, GT300 is not just a base architecture for desktop and laptop GPUs, but also for the future Tegra and Tesla GPUs. So it’s extremely important that they get off on the right foot with the first generation of GT300 GPUs.

Anyways, that’s all for this post! Hope you guys enjoyed it!

In tomorrow’s post, I will include more information about the GT300! For now, I’m going to leave you all to absorb all of the great news! :)

    Cheers!

    Intel’s Core i9 1000 “Destroyers”: AMD’s Funeral Procession?

    Posted in: CPU |

    Hey gys, Icarus here!

Today, I’m going to keep talking about Intel’s Core i9 processors as a continuation from the last post.

So, if you haven’t read my last post, you should really get on it!

    Anyways, going on…

So, another important feature of the new Core i9 series is the number of cores on a single processor.

Hmm, well, the most we’ve had so far is 4 cores, and with HyperThreading, we technically had 8…

Do you think we have a maximum of 8 cores on this processor line?

    Think again!!!

This monstrosity of a processor includes dual-, quad-, hexa-, and octa-cores!!!

So, for those of you who don’t know your prefixes very well(most of you probably have it down), that’s two, four, six, and eight cores.

That’s just insane! Most of us couldn’t even use four cores fully, and now we have six cores and eight cores!

And since HyperThreading is enabled on these processors, that means you can handle from 12 threads to 16 threads!

    That’s just insane.

I mean, I don’t even know what you can do to fully utilize a six-core or eight-core processor… maybe if you…

I can’t even fathom how powerful these processors are going to be.

The Core i9 processors will be previewed in September 2009 right when the Core i5 and newer Core i7 processors are released, so we will always have something new to drool over.

So, with Intel going above and beyond at all times…

    What will happen to AMD?

Well, we don’t really know yet. Their flagship processors haven’t had the performance crown since Intel released the Core 2 Duo series, and it doesn’t look like they will take the crown away anytime soon.

So maybe a funeral procession is at hand?

Maybe, and maybe not. No one knows what lurks behind those walls at AMD’s factories and offices, they may be brewing a concoction for a new processor that might absolutely blow everyone away.

Anyways, that’s all for this post! Hope you guys enjoyed it!
