Core i9, the new Flagship Intel “Destroyer”
Hey guys, Icarus here!
So, I’m going to take a side-track from my NVidia streak, and since there’s not much to talk about AMD at the moment, I’m going to talk about Intel!
Well, more specifically, the new Core i9 Gulftown processors.
I gave a preview of the Intel Core i9 processors in this post so if you haven’t read it already, read it! It’s a must.
So, here we go!
Something New About this Line?
Well, first of all, the processors in the Core i9 line will be named “Core i9 1000″ processor.
Finally, a logical numbering system. After all the confusing misnomers from AMD and NVidia, I’m relieved that at least one company out there takes this into account.
Also makes for easy marketing.
Same Socket as Nehalem Processors
So, after releasing the Core i5 and newer Core i7 Lynnfield processors on the LGA 1156 socket, they go back to the LGA 1336 socket.
Now this makes more sense; the older Core i7 and new Core i9 processors are much, much more high-end than any processors in existence.
However, it’s a must to note that the Core i9 processors are from a completely different architecture.
Which leads me to the next topic:
Core i9 = Westmere Architecture
So, what’s new about this architecture?
Well, it’s Intel’s first 32nm processor!
It means that you can fit more chips onto the processor with the same amount of power(or even more), so you get much, much more performance out of the new processor!
However, they’re having a small issue cooling down the 32nm chips, so they’ll have to work a bit more on that.
When they cool them well enough, they’ll release the processors into the market!
Well, that’s all for this post! Hope you all enjoyed this post!
I will be continuing talking about the Core i9 processors in a post tomorrow, so come back!

NVidia ION Graphics, Coming to PC Soon
Hey guys, Icarus here!
Man, I’m on a roll on NVidia’s stuff, so I’m going to continue this streak by talking about the latest in PC laptop news!
I bring you today, news on ASUS’s new Eee PCs, now powered by NVidia’s very own ION graphics!
Why is this such exciting news?
Because we’ve never really had NVidia-ION-powered all-in-one PCs! Apple’s had them for a while in their iMac.
Here’re some things you need to know about iMacs before I start talking about the gist of things:
- They are extremely high quality, both inside and outside
- They’ve out-performed most all-in-one PCs up-to-date
- Praised for its media capabilities and prowess over all-in-one PCs
- The down side is, they’re a bit expensive for most users
- Some important software(ones used in business and other fields) are not compatible or non-existant on the Mac OSs(operating systems)
So, now I’m going to go into the gist of things, mostly about the media and graphics prowess of the Mac.
Because NVidia’s ION graphics, one of the top, if not, the best graphics you can have in an all-in-one PC, has been powering Apple’s new iMacs for a while, the all-in-one PCs have been lagging behind in the field of graphics and media.
But we finally have a PC laptop with NVidia ION graphics! Woohoo!
Now, all-in-one PCs will(hopefully) not lag behind Apple iMacs anymore.
With this new graphics, you can take out the graphics advantage of the iMac, and all the iMac is left with is its media advantage! And that can be taken out by software programmers.
Anyways, that’s all for this post! Hope you guys enjoyed it!

NVidia’s Tegra Tablet ?=? Apple Tablet?
Hey guys, Icarus here!
I’m going to continue my NVidia streak here today, and talk about NVidia’s latest rumors on its new Tegra “media pad” platform.
So what exactly is a “media pad”?
Well, according to NVidia’s standards, it’s a touch-screen 7-13 inch plate that will have all of the media capabilities imaginable, all in a somewhat thin plate with 3G capabilities.
And there have been rumors going around that this new media pad with NVidia’s Tegra platform may be Apple’s new Tablet.
So, does NVidia’s Tegra Tablet = Apple’s Tablet?
To be honest, no one knows. Apple is always extremely careful about leaking information, and they’re always scared of leaking information too.
So until there are more rumors or news about Apple’s new Tablet, no one will know.
But hypothetically speaking, is it possible?
In my opinion, yes, it could be.
Apple was extremely successful in powering all of the functions and applications on the iPhone in that small of a space, but it will be much harder to find hardware that can power something many times larger than the iPhone.
Trying to shrink the inside workings of an iMac will probably be too hard to put into this slim, small Media Pad since the pad should me many times thinner with much less wiggling room.
However, on the plus side, with a larger Tablet, Apple will have more room for cooling all of the hardware efficiently.
So, that’s all for this post! Hope you guys enjoyed it.

NVidia Motherboard Chipset: MCP99
Hey guys, Icarus here!
So yesterday, I promised a post on a possible NVidia motherboard chipset for the newest Nehalem and Lynnfield CPUs, so here it is!
NVidia, who seems to have had enough of Intel’s sleeper hold on their restriction on motherboard chipset production for new Nehalem and Lynnfield processors, seems to be making a huge move to finally resolve this case between the Green Goblin and Intel.
For months now, Intel and NVidia have gone to court numerous times to solve the motherboard chipset issue between the two, where Intel stated that NVidia has no legal right to manufacture chipsets that will support their new Core i3, i5 and i7 processors.
It seems like NVidia’s just had enough of all this, and went ahead to make a move of their own: create a motherboard chipset of their own.
It’s called the MCP99, and it’s expected to be released during the first quarter of 2010. However, there haven’t been much information leaked about specific details and specs of the MCP99. No surprise there.
So you’re probably wondering, how is NVidia going to release the MCP99 into the market over all the legal issues?
Well, I frankly don’t know. Intel and NVidia seem to have left the issue up to the courts because both companies seem to have had enough of arguing and authorization wars.
If NVidia does succeed in releasing the MCP99 legally into the motherboard market, it’ll finally end the mini-monopoly that Intel has had in the motherboard chipset industry for the last couple months.
Because NVidia has been known to make chipsets that lean more towards the enthusiasts and overclockers, it’ll definitely be a nerve-wrecking moment for Intel.
That’s all for this post! Hope you guys enjoyed it!

“Power of 3″: NVidia and Intel Team
Hey guys, Icarus here!
Today, I’m going to be talking about another important part of the debut of Intel’s P55 Lynnfield chipset motherboards: the “Power of 3″.
So, you’re probably wondering what the “Power of 3″ is.
Well, here’s a simple way to put it: it’s NVidia’s way of marketing their SLI capabilities on select P55 motherboards.
Here’re the actual hardware included in the “Power of 3″:
- Intel’s P55 motherboard with SLI enabled
- Intel’s Lynnfield CPU
- NVidia’s GPUs
So, what’s so important about this?
For one, this is one of NVidia’s ways to combat AMD’s own Dragon platform. In AMD’s Dragon platform, they include an AMD’s Phenom II CPU, AMD 700 series motherboard, and ATI’s 4800 series GPU.
So, the Green Goblin prepared its own powerful marketing name, and is going to put up a huge marketing, industry, and technology war with AMD.
Secondly, it means that NVidia and Intel have reached at least a temporary, stable relationship. Intel authorized SLI capabilities on its P55 motherboards in return for NVidia’s brilliant marketing plans for the P55 motherboards and its “Power of 3″ platform.
Thirdly(if that’s a word), it means that NVidia is going to be well off in the motherboard and GPU drivers field. AMD has yet to start out with extremely successful drivers from the start, so AMD will definitely have to work extra hard this time.
And here’s one more small addition to Intel’s P55 motherboards: NVidia’s PhysX Ready logo program.
This basically means that if a P55 motherboard has enough PCIe slots to utilize at least 2 NVidia GPUs in SLI, then the second GPU can be used also as a PhysX card.
Though many consumers were disappointed by NVidia’s PhysX capabilities the first time the Green Goblin released them, NVidia promises that future games will be nothing like the games in the past because of the new PhysX capabilities.
Who knows? We will just have to wait and see.
Well, that’s all for this post! Hope you guys enjoyed it!
Tomorrow, I’m going to try to find out more rumors about NVidia’s new Lynnfield motherboard chipset!
