AMD’s Ultrathin Platform: Retaliation
Hey guys, Icarus here!
So I’ve talked a bit about NVidia’s ION platform, which mainly focuses on graphics performance on netbooks. So, I thought I’d talk a bit about other platforms.
Today, AMD came out with a retaliation tactic with their Ultrathin Platform.
Yes, the name is self-explanatory; the platform is solely for netbooks.
In this platform you have:
- AMD Turion Neo X2 processor
- AMD Radeon 3200 GPU
By the way, the Radeon 3200 GPU is what vendors include in their larger laptops, so putting in a GPU like that into the netbooks is quite impressive.
With this, AMD plans to retaliate against two platforms:
- Intel’s CULV netbook Platform
- NVidia’s ION Platform
Now, neither platforms have been released into the mainstream market yet, so no one really knows which one is the best.
These platforms concentrate on giving more graphics performance while lowering power consumption and increasing battery life.
With their new platform, AMD claims that its graphics performance is 77% faster than Intel’s platform and with the raw processor speed, 44% faster than Intel’s platform.
Now those are significant statements there. 77% and 44% are some huge percentages when it comes to performance, and I hope that AMD’s platform can perform up to par to their statements.
Anyways, that’s all for this post! Hope you guys enjoyed it!
Stay tuned for more to come! Make sure to comment and subscribe!
Cheers!
