New Innovation in Netbook GPUs: The NVidia 9M

Posted in: GPU, Netbooks |

Hey guys, Icarus here!

I just got some really interesting news today.

You know how we talk about and, some of us, drool over having SLI or CrossFire configured in our desktops? I know I do.

Never heard of having SLI in netbooks right?

Well, today’s announcement by NVidia will change all of that.

Today, NVidia announced their new 9M series GPUs for netbooks, which allows Hybrid SLI in netbooks!

That’s CRAZY!

That means, in future netbooks with NVidia 9M series GPUs, you have:

  • two GPUs, one lower-power and one high-performance GPU
  • the graphics power of Hybrid SLI
  • the capabilities of all of the NVidia Forceware i.e. GeForce Boost and Hybrid Power
  • Intel’s Pinetrail GPUs

You get all of that, and much, much more, all in a small, portable netbook!

I mean, that’s just crazy. That’s like having a desktop you can carry around with you. Literally.

With this much power, there’s not much that you can’t do on a netbook:

  • media editing
  • video encoding
  • hardcore gaming
  • watch HD movies

The list is endless. The possibilities are endless.

Now, when is NVidia debuting the 9M series of GPUs?

Well, I’m guessing they’re going to include the 9M series into their netbook platform, the NVidia ION as soon as their platform becomes more and more mainstream.

And when Intel debuts their Pinetrail series of netbook GPUs, the potential of the NVidia ION platform is infinite; limitless, to say the least.

Well, that’s all for today! Hope you guys enjoyed it, and hope this helps!

Stay tuned for more to come! Remember to comment and subscribe!

Cheers!

Top 7 Reasons to Upgrade NOW

    Posted in: Upgrading |

    Hey guys, Icarus here!

Today, I’m going to compile for you my “Top 7 Reasons to Upgrade NOW”.

Why is it such a great time to upgrade your components right now? Even in this recession?

Because the computer technology industry never stops improving its hardware, and as more advanced hardware come out, the prices start to go down!

    So, here we go!

TOP 7 REASONS TO UPGRADE NOW

    1. The CPU Industry is BOOMING! If you haven’t read some of my recent posts on Intel’s Core i5 and i7 Lynnfield CPUs or AMD’s hexa-core 40W Operatron EE CPUs and some other posts, you’re missing out!
These new CPUs are not only inexpensive and targeted at the lower-budget and mid-budget computer builders, but they’re also performance monsters!
    2. Motherboard Industry has motherboards for all levels of budget builders! I’m specifically talking about Intel’s P55 Motherboards. Intel created the P55 chipset specifically because many vendors made motherboards for all levels of budgets:
      • low-budget builders
      • mid-budget builders
      • high-end enthusiasts

And that’s just more reason to take advantage of some of the less-expensive, but still outstanding performers!

    3. The GPU Industry is on the Verge of an All-Out War! To learn more about the war between the two, try reading some of my articles on NVidia and AMD. It’s going to get serious here!
Once NVidia comes out with their GT300 and AMD comes out with their RV870 DX11 GPUs(which is VERY soon), the prices of the older DX10, but still pretty new GPUs are going to go down majorly!

And even now, many of AMD/ATi’s GPUs have AWESOME price/performance probabilities.

    4. Look At the Hard Drives Right Now! What do you see?
Internal Hard Drives… the stuff we have right now is just amazing.

Just a few months ago, we were on 1TB hard drives, and now we’re all the way up to 2TBs! On 7200RPM!

And take a look at the Solid State Disks aka SSD’s. They’re extremely fast, and the amount of storage you have on those is constantly increasing!

      Literally, at an exponential rate.

    5. Constant Stream of Innovation on All Ends
Have you noticed, recently, that there’s constantly new things coming out every month or so?

That’s more than enough reason to start thinking about upgrading.

When new hardware comes out, older generation parts become a bit more obsolete, and the prices on them start to go down.

When prices go down, we’re happy consumers. When we upgrade, we’re happy consumers. It’s always a win-win for us!

    6. Windows 7 is Going to Get Mainstream!
Look, we all know Windows 7 is going to be one of the best operating systems out there.

With more user-friendly features and more potential to max out on both software and hardware usage.

And as we constantly get updates on the new OSs, we can do more for less. Literally.

So why not take advantage of this situation, and upgrade?

    7. Hardware Is Becoming So Advanced that…
Many of the low-budget hardware can handle all of our daily needs.

Before, hardware was still catching up to what we can do with software. So consequently, we had to buy better, much more expensive hardware to do some of the things we wanted.

Like playing Crysis on good resolution/quality, using Photoshop and benchmarking software at the same time, some of the stuff we literally drool over.

Well, there’s my top 7 reasons! Hope it helped and hope you guys enjoyed it!

    Cheers!

    AMD’s Ultrathin Platform: Retaliation

    Posted in: Netbooks |

    Hey guys, Icarus here!

So I’ve talked a bit about NVidia’s ION platform, which mainly focuses on graphics performance on netbooks. So, I thought I’d talk a bit about other platforms.

Today, AMD came out with a retaliation tactic with their Ultrathin Platform.

Yes, the name is self-explanatory; the platform is solely for netbooks.

    In this platform you have:

    • AMD Turion Neo X2 processor
    • AMD Radeon 3200 GPU

By the way, the Radeon 3200 GPU is what vendors include in their larger laptops, so putting in a GPU like that into the netbooks is quite impressive.

With this, AMD plans to retaliate against two platforms:

    1. Intel’s CULV netbook Platform
    2. NVidia’s ION Platform

Now, neither platforms have been released into the mainstream market yet, so no one really knows which one is the best.

These platforms concentrate on giving more graphics performance while lowering power consumption and increasing battery life.

With their new platform, AMD claims that its graphics performance is 77% faster than Intel’s platform and with the raw processor speed, 44% faster than Intel’s platform.

Now those are significant statements there. 77% and 44% are some huge percentages when it comes to performance, and I hope that AMD’s platform can perform up to par to their statements.

Anyways, that’s all for this post! Hope you guys enjoyed it!

    NVidia ION Becomes(ing) Mainstream

    Posted in: Netbooks |

    Hey guys, Icarus here!

In the last few days, there’ve been a lot of buzz about NVidia’s ION graphics for netbooks.

NVidia’s ION platform consists of NVidia’s 9400M netbook GPU and Intel’s Atom netbook CPU. The platform is solely for netbooks.

What’s amazing about this platform is that it’s the same platform as Apple’s Macbooks.

Yes, you heard right, they’re the same! This means that Intel netbooks and laptops will have an equally good chance of being just as high-quality machines as Apple’s Macbooks.

Before the NVidia ION platform, PC netbooks and laptops just didn’t cut it when they went against Apple’s Macbooks; the quality and hardware superiority of Apple’s Macbooks just rolled over PC netbooks and laptops like…

A tank rolling over a brick wall, you could say.

But anyways, the point is, Apple Macbooks just outperformed PC laptops and netbooks in every possible way. Except for price.

But now, with the power of NVidia’s ION platform, both types of netbooks/laptops are on equal ground. So now it’s up to the vendors to make the difference.

For those of you thinking about buying a PC laptop/netbook soon, here’re some models to think about:

    • Samsung N510, coming out some time in September
    • Lenovo IdeaPad S12, coming out around when Windows 7 comes out
    • HP Mini311, coming out some time in September

I am pretty sure that there’re other models coming out along with these three, but these are the ones I’ve heard about the most.

So, a question to you guys: how well do you think the NVidia ION platform will perform against Apple’s Macbooks?

Anyways, that’s all for this post! Hope you guys enjoyed it!

    Intel’s Core i5, or Intel’s Core i9… Hard Decisions

    Posted in: CPU |

    Hey guys, Icarus here!

Today, retailers all over the US finally released its stock of new Core i5 750 CPUs along with some Core i7 860 and 870 CPUs!

With the release of the new Core i5 and i7 Lynnfield processors, also comes Intel’s new P55 motherboards with LGA-1156 sockets!

From what I heard, the 2.6GHz Core i5 750 CPUs are extremely overclocking-friendly, with some going up to 3.5GHz without any additional voltage increase. That’s impressive!

AMD should really be watching out now because the Ultra-budget, Core i5 is the definition of “bang for the buck”. Not only do they outperform AMD’s flagship models, but it does it in style, with money left over!

    Now, into the real topic.

So, most of you now should know by now that Intel’s Core i5 and i7 Lynnfield processors are on a completely new socket: the LGA-1156.

Now, if you look at these processors for the short-term, these processors are impressive for the price they are selling at.

But look at it this way:

Intel is releasing its Core i9 1000 Gulftown hexa-core processors in Q1 of 2010 on the LGA-1336 socket.

The problem with this is, if you build an awesome, budget Core i5 system right now, the hexa-core Core i9 processors cannot be included in your future upgrades unless you are willing to buy a brand-new CPU on a brand-new motherboard.

So the question to you is this: would you rather build a budget, but awesome Core i5/i7 Lynnfield machine right now, or save up some cash until the Core i9 Gulftown processors come out in Q1 of 2010?

    The decision is yours!

Well, that’s all for this post! Hope you guys enjoyed it!

Stay tuned for more! Make sure to comment and subscribe!

    Cheers!
