Intel’s Core i5 Processors, Released in Europe!
Hey guys, Icarus here!
Today is a great day indeed: Intel has released the Core i5 Lynnfield processors in Europe today!
This means that the release of the Core i5 Lynnfield processors in the US and other parts of the world is coming closer and closer!
It’s so close that I can smell and taste(a bit weird, I know) the awesome pricing and performance it will come to provide!
This also means that some of the P55 motherboards have also been released in Europe.
But why Europe first? The US market is probably much larger, and should have much more demand.
I don’t really know why, but it seems like Europe usually gets the newest hardware first. Maybe because there’s a more concentrated population demand there?
Who knows.
With the release of the new Core i5 processors also comes the preview of the Core i9 processors.
Intel has been going with this “Tick Tock” convention for their processor development. It’s literally like an old-fashion clock, where the bar goes back and forth.
The “Tock” was the Nehalem Core i7 processors that were released during the summer of this year(2009). The “Tick” is happening now, with the release of the Core i5 and i7 Lynnfield processors with the LGA 1156 socket.
The next “Tock” I believe is the Core i9 processors which, if everything goes according to plan, should come out sometime in the latter part of Q4 of this year or earlier next year in 2010.
With this “Tick Tock” convention, Intel has been kicking AMD’s bottom in terms of performance and overall “bang-for-the-buck”.
Well, that’s all for this post! Hope you guys enjoyed it!

Intel’s Core i9 1000 “Destroyers”: AMD’s Funeral Procession?
Hey gys, Icarus here!
Today, I’m going to keep talking about Intel’s Core i9 processors as a continuation from the last post.
So, if you haven’t read my last post, you should really get on it!
Anyways, going on…
So, another important feature of the new Core i9 series is the number of cores on a single processor.
Hmm, well, the most we’ve had so far is 4 cores, and with HyperThreading, we technically had 8…
Do you think we have a maximum of 8 cores on this processor line?
Think again!!!
This monstrosity of a processor includes dual-, quad-, hexa-, and octa-cores!!!
So, for those of you who don’t know your prefixes very well(most of you probably have it down), that’s two, four, six, and eight cores.
That’s just insane! Most of us couldn’t even use four cores fully, and now we have six cores and eight cores!
And since HyperThreading is enabled on these processors, that means you can handle from 12 threads to 16 threads!
That’s just insane.
I mean, I don’t even know what you can do to fully utilize a six-core or eight-core processor… maybe if you…
I can’t even fathom how powerful these processors are going to be.
The Core i9 processors will be previewed in September 2009 right when the Core i5 and newer Core i7 processors are released, so we will always have something new to drool over.
So, with Intel going above and beyond at all times…
What will happen to AMD?
Well, we don’t really know yet. Their flagship processors haven’t had the performance crown since Intel released the Core 2 Duo series, and it doesn’t look like they will take the crown away anytime soon.
So maybe a funeral procession is at hand?
Maybe, and maybe not. No one knows what lurks behind those walls at AMD’s factories and offices, they may be brewing a concoction for a new processor that might absolutely blow everyone away.
Anyways, that’s all for this post! Hope you guys enjoyed it!

Core i9, the new Flagship Intel “Destroyer”
Hey guys, Icarus here!
So, I’m going to take a side-track from my NVidia streak, and since there’s not much to talk about AMD at the moment, I’m going to talk about Intel!
Well, more specifically, the new Core i9 Gulftown processors.
I gave a preview of the Intel Core i9 processors in this post so if you haven’t read it already, read it! It’s a must.
So, here we go!
Something New About this Line?
Well, first of all, the processors in the Core i9 line will be named “Core i9 1000″ processor.
Finally, a logical numbering system. After all the confusing misnomers from AMD and NVidia, I’m relieved that at least one company out there takes this into account.
Also makes for easy marketing.
Same Socket as Nehalem Processors
So, after releasing the Core i5 and newer Core i7 Lynnfield processors on the LGA 1156 socket, they go back to the LGA 1336 socket.
Now this makes more sense; the older Core i7 and new Core i9 processors are much, much more high-end than any processors in existence.
However, it’s a must to note that the Core i9 processors are from a completely different architecture.
Which leads me to the next topic:
Core i9 = Westmere Architecture
So, what’s new about this architecture?
Well, it’s Intel’s first 32nm processor!
It means that you can fit more chips onto the processor with the same amount of power(or even more), so you get much, much more performance out of the new processor!
However, they’re having a small issue cooling down the 32nm chips, so they’ll have to work a bit more on that.
When they cool them well enough, they’ll release the processors into the market!
Well, that’s all for this post! Hope you all enjoyed this post!
I will be continuing talking about the Core i9 processors in a post tomorrow, so come back!

Cheers!

Intel’s E6500K: Great News for Low-Budget Builders!
Hey guys, Icarus is back!!
Sorry I haven’t been posting the past week, I was away at college orientation! It was awesome!
But anyways, back on topic!
Recently, AMD has been making another move on the low-budget builders market by releasing two sub-$100 processors, the AMD Phenom II X2 Callisto and Athlon X2 Regor.
So what’s so good about these sub-$100 processors? Well they have unlocked multipliers, which basically means that there’s virtually no limit to how much you can overclock. Until your processor catches on fire or blows up.
So it’s like boxing: if someone punches you, you punch back where you see an opening. And that’s exactly what Intel did.
Intel has recently unveiled plans to release the E6500K, a 2.93 GHz dual-core processor with unlocked multipliers based on the 45nm Wolfdale-M2 core some time soon.
The Intel E6500K is in the Pentium E6000 family, expected to go head-on against many of the lower and older AMD processors. How will they do? Well, we’ll just have to wait and see.
And of course, can’t leave without the interesting fact of the day!
Apparently, the K at the end of “E6500K” means “black” in digital imaging jargon. So I’m guessing like “Black edition” or something along those lines? If you have any other opinions about this, leave them in comments!

Intel’s Atom Z Processors Retires
Hey guys, Icarus here!
These days, there’ve been a lot of confusion and back-and-forth rumors about processors that we don’t know which rumor is true. But the only thing we can do is to go with what little information they give us.
Intel’s Atom Z processors, primarily used in netbooks, have been extremely popular these past few months to the point where most popular netbooks are based on this small processor.
However, these last few days, there’ve been rumors that Intel will no longer fulfill orders of Atom Z processors for netbooks.
People say this is a move to better “differentiate netbook processors from those used in MIDs” but I think there’s more to it than meets the eye.
Remember I told you about the Pine Trail coming out very soon? Well, it would make sense for Intel to stop producing Atom Z processors if the Pine Trail chipset is coming out this September along with netbooks equipped with the Pine Trail chipset.
But how does this affect you, the consumer?
Well, if you were thinking about buying an ASUS Eee PC or a VAIO P netbook, they’re going to have to find something new to replace the Atom Z processor.
Since the Atom Z processor is one of the top netbook processors on the market today, it’s going to be very hard trying to find something that’s just as cost-efficient and powerful as the Atom Z processor.
Well, that’s all for this post! Hope you guys enjoyed it!
