Time Flies By, Just like Games Do

Posted in: Games |

Well, this will be the continuation of my gaming post. Now, I will talk about how the classic games will change as time passes by.

As time passes by, more and more people are starting to convert to PC gaming: That’s awesome right? Well, maybe not for those classic games that people still play, like Starcraft and Counter Strike 1.6.

As time passes by, more and more people will divert their attention to what they think are currently the “hottest games”, like the one I’ve mentioned, Call of Duty 4. People start to give less and less attention to those games that built the foundation for the great games that come out today, and eventually, they will leave the domain of the classic games. So what’ll happen to the classic games then?

I sure don’t know. I definitely know that people will continue to play some of these games, even after the companies who originally made them, forget about them and allow people to have the games for free. People will still play them, and enjoy them.

And one thing is for sure: these games will pass on the title of the “classic game”, so that the generation of PC games will keep flowing. The era of one classic game doesn’t end because people stopped playing it: it gets passed on, game after game, so that the basic foundation will still be intact, and create those awesome games we see today.

So, that’s all for now. Until tomorrow, sleeeppp!!! :D

    What are “Classic Games”?

    Posted in: Games |

Well, hey guys. I just had a new thought that came to mind, after thinking up of gaming computer builds.

Now, you see a lot of people calling many games “classics”, but what really are “classics”?

When many people talk about the “classic games”, they think that it just refers to an awesome game: if you’re one of those people, you’re in the right place. I’m going to talk you through this.

But people are, unfortunately, mistaken; some people even call the new games, i.e. Call of Duty 4, a “classic game”. Many people do not even know what they’re referring to when they talk about a “classic game”.

Well, here’s my definition of a classic game: a game that’s innovative, new, original, and full of new ideas. Games like Call of Duty 4, in my opinion, are not real classics: they simply took the war theme off of their previous volumes, and put it in a current time frame. That’s it. New guns, new maps, yata-yata-yata; I really don’t care, but that’s not a classic.

A REAL classic is a game that brings something new to the PC and console gaming alike. Here, take Starcraft for example. In its time, it was the first game to ever utilize actual ground/air separation. Like, you can actually fly over spaces, and you can’t move ground units over them. There are some units, like the zerglings, that simply can’t attack air units. Another innovation is its fast-paced game tempo: one bad move, and the game could turn around. This creates many exciting scenarios, where the player in the losing situation can turn it around in one critical move. And add on all of its units, combinations, maps, etc: the possibilities are endless. Starcraft is a REAL CLASSIC GAME: it IS the father of many RTS(real-time strategy) games today.

Now, after reading this, you tell me what a classic game is. A couple come to mind: Counter Strike 1.6, which was originally a mod of Half-Life, Half Life itself, the Doom series. All of those are classic games that can’t be replaced. You see, if you call Call of Duty 4 or Crysis a “classic”, then what are those games that came before it, the games that built the foundation of its ideas? Just an “old game”? I sure hope not.

That’s all for now. I will talk more into this issue tomorrow. Hope you enjoyed this!
