NVidia ION Graphics, Coming to PC Soon

Posted in: PC |

Hey guys, Icarus here!

Man, I’m on a roll on NVidia’s stuff, so I’m going to continue this streak by talking about the latest in PC laptop news!

I bring you today, news on ASUS’s new Eee PCs, now powered by NVidia’s very own ION graphics!

Why is this such exciting news?

Because we’ve never really had NVidia-ION-powered all-in-one PCs! Apple’s had them for a while in their iMac.

Here’re some things you need to know about iMacs before I start talking about the gist of things:

  1. They are extremely high quality, both inside and outside
  2. They’ve out-performed most all-in-one PCs up-to-date
  3. Praised for its media capabilities and prowess over all-in-one PCs
  4. The down side is, they’re a bit expensive for most users
  5. Some important software(ones used in business and other fields) are not compatible or non-existant on the Mac OSs(operating systems)

So, now I’m going to go into the gist of things, mostly about the media and graphics prowess of the Mac.

Because NVidia’s ION graphics, one of the top, if not, the best graphics you can have in an all-in-one PC, has been powering Apple’s new iMacs for a while, the all-in-one PCs have been lagging behind in the field of graphics and media.

But we finally have a PC laptop with NVidia ION graphics! Woohoo!

Now, all-in-one PCs will(hopefully) not lag behind Apple iMacs anymore.

With this new graphics, you can take out the graphics advantage of the iMac, and all the iMac is left with is its media advantage! And that can be taken out by software programmers.

Anyways, that’s all for this post! Hope you guys enjoyed it!

Stay tuned for more! Icarus out!

Step 5: Now You’re Ready to Start Picking!

    Posted in: PC |

    Hey guys, Icarus here!

Wow, it’s been a great series so far isn’t it? Well, we’re on to our second-to-last step of my guide: picking components!

This is a culmination of all of the research you’ve done, planning your budget wisely, and prioritizing certain components over others.

Now, you’re ready to buy your components. But where can you start? Well, here’s a list to start you off:

    1. Your local hardware store(Fry’s is a good place to start)
    2. Online retailers(Newegg, NCIX, zipzoomfly.com).Those are just my favorite sites, there are many more great online retailers out there.

Speaking of online retailers, you must make sure that the site you pick will ship to your location. I live in the US, and many of my favorite websites only ship inside the US.

Unless you have relatives or friends who live in a location that the online retailer can ship to, you will be in a difficult situation when you get to the end of the shopping cart and find out that all of your components cannot be shipped to where you live.

So, you’re probably wondering why eBay and other auction sites are missing.

Why Avoid Used Auction Items at all Costs?

Why? Because there’re no guarantees that the product is going to be completely safe and usable.

Some vendors only give the warranty to those who originally bought and opened the package. Also, once someone’s opened it, who knows what kind of scratches and damage there is?

Anyways, that’s all for this post! Hope you enjoyed this post!

In the next few posts, I will be making some more sample builds for each type of computer.

    Cheers!

Step 4: It’s Time to Break out the Books!

    Posted in: PC |

    Hey guys Icarus here!

Today, we’re on to step 4 of Icarus’ guide to building a successful computer: research!!

Now, we’re not literally breaking out the books, because that’s what we have the Internet out! Woohoo!

Here’re my steps to researching successfully:

    1. Realize that there are millions of websites and forums just for one topic
    2. Finding websites that you like personally
    3. Join forums and discuss, or just start reading through other people’s posts!
    4. Find a couple credible websites that review the products you are looking at. Make sure you read them carefully

    Step 1

The first step is to realize is the fact that there are millions of websites and forums just for computer components. The trick is to finding ones that are credible and well-read.

Some key things to keep in mind when you’re looking for good websites are:

    1. Page Rank(SEO Quake, Google Toolbar)
    2. Number of comments and discussions
    3. Number of registered members on forums
    4. Number of posts per week on certain topics of your choice

Those are just a few things to keep in mind. Other things to look for is if they have magazines or any other medium.

    Step 2

Now, the second step is relatively easy: just pick a few credible websites and forums that you like!

You can choose for just a few reasons like their site layout, frequent posts, or enormous amount of credibility!

For whatever reasons you choose specific websites, just make sure that they are credible sources of information.

    Step 3

Once you find a few forums and websites, there are a number of things you can do! And they are all quite enjoyable if I don’t say so myself.

    1. Start commenting on website posts! See what others think, maybe you can revise your thinking on specific components!
    2. Join forums and just start talking! People love sharing information and their own points of view. You can even make friends here!
    3. Just start storming through other people’s threads on forums or websites!! They are free, and all it takes is time. And it’s time well spent!

This is my favorite part of the fourth step to building a computer. There is just so much information and so many experts out there that I just can’t get enough of it!

    Step 4

Now we get down to the nitty-gritty. You must read the hardware reviews carefully. I can’t emphasize this step enough, this is the most important part of your research!

Here are some things you want to keep in mind while you’re reading other people’s reviews:

    1. Number of faulty products
    2. Performance(verbal review and hardcore benchmarks)
    3. Use for certain consumers

Oh, and here’s my warning to you: don’t trust product reviews on retailers completely. Some people have no idea what they’re talking about.

If you read some people’s reviews on online retailers, you will know what I”m talking about. Many of them just say “This is great!” or “This product is horrible”, or something else in the middle. They don’t provide detailed facts about the product.

Well, that’s all for this post! Hope you guys enjoyed it!

    Step 3: Money, Money, Money

    Posted in: PC |

    Hey guys, Icarus here!

Now that I’m done explaining all about the typical four types of computers, I’m going to start on the next step to building your computer: knowing your budget and budget level well!

So, a budget is how much money you have to spend on, for this situation, your new computer and all of its parts.

Typically, I divide people by the amount of money they have into three levels:

    1. Low-end($500 and below)

    2. Mid-Range($600-$1500)

    3. High-End($1500 and above)

Well you might be wondering why mid-range has such a large price range. This is because most of us are at this budget level, and, in most cases, we are most flexible with emphasis on components and the price on each component(excluding high-end).

Also, if you think about it, all four types of computers can be made in he mid-range budget area. You can easily build a daily-use computer with $600, a great gaming computer with $1200, and awesome media-editing and workstation computers with $1400. Those are just some examples.

Now, the important part to note is that it does not necessarily mean that all four types of computers will fit every category. For example:

    1. Making a low-end media-editing computer will be quite hard. You need a good sum of money for software, and have another large sum to invest in good components.

    2. You won’t need a high-end daily-use computer if all you’re going to do is some Internet surfing and look at Facebook. In daily-use computers, you just need a little more than what your daily routine requires.

This step is extremely important because it basically cuts out the work for you:

    1. How you should divide your money

    2. How much you should spend on certain components

    3. Plan how efficiently you can use your money

Anyways, that’s all for this post! Hope you all enjoyed it!

And remember to comment and subscribe!

    Cheers!
